CoroCoro promo cards are Pokémon cards that came free with Japan’s CoroCoro Comic magazine, or that readers got by sending in a coupon. Overseas collectors say many CoroCoro cards are now selling near their all-time highs. This guide covers why CoroCoro promos draw attention, four cards to know, and their latest listings on Collect2Day.
Key points
- CoroCoro promos were only given out through the magazine, the early glossy finish was never reprinted, and many have art found on no other card.
- Mew (No.151), Erika’s Bulbasaur (No.001), Kyogre ex (011/ADV-P) and Groudon ex (012/ADV-P) are four that collectors often name.
- On 29 October 2026 their lowest Collect2Day listings ran from ¥1,222 to ¥38,799. Graded copies cost far more: a Kyogre ex PSA10 is about ¥2,375,000, and a glossy Mew PSA9 about ¥3,167,000.
What are CoroCoro promo cards?
CoroCoro Comic (月刊コロコロコミック) is a monthly children’s manga magazine published by Shogakukan. In the Pokémon card game’s early years it often came with a free promo card (おまけカード), or with a coupon readers could cut out and exchange for a limited card. Together these are known as CoroCoro promos.
Cards printed before 2001 have a different back from today’s, which Japanese collectors call 旧裏 (old back). The Mew and Erika’s Bulbasaur here are old-back cards; Kyogre ex and Groudon ex are promos from the 2003 ADV era.
Why do collectors watch CoroCoro cards?
- The glossy finish is gone. Some early CoroCoro cards had a glossy surface (光沢あり), a print finish that was never used again.
- Magazine only. These cards came with the magazine or by coupon, never in booster packs, so print runs were limited.
- Exclusive art. Many CoroCoro cards carry art that appears only on that promo.
- Few high grades. Magazine cards were easily damaged in the post and on the page, and overseas collectors note that PSA 8 to 10 copies are scarce.

Asking prices in JP¥ on Collect2Day, 29 October 2026, not sold prices. The lowest listing and listing count cover ungraded single cards only. Graded prices are converted to yen and approximate. Mew and Erika’s Bulbasaur show PSA9: Mew’s only PSA10 listing has an extreme asking price, and Erika’s Bulbasaur has no PSA10 for sale. The cheapest listings are mostly in poor condition; better copies and graded slabs usually cost far more.
What to check before buying a CoroCoro promo
- The version. Mew: glossy or not. Erika’s Bulbasaur: CoroCoro or Gym expansion. Kyogre ex and Groudon ex: 011/012 (holo) or 001/002.
- The condition. Magazine cards often have creases and scratches, so look closely at the corners and surface in the listing photos.
- Graded versus raw. PSA and other graded cards are priced very differently from raw ones, so compare them separately.
